Do You Need to Unplug? A Checklist for Healthy Work-Life Boundaries for Teachers
Unlike many other jobs, the time you can spend on teaching is limitless, and the impact feels immense. This can be a dangerous recipe for passionate teachers--particularly if those passionate people do not consciously enforce boundaries.
Boundaries are what protect your incredible energy, creativity, and passion. They affirm that no one’s energy is infinite. They are a form of self-respect, self-care, and serve as a model for our students who watch how we operate in this busy world.
Here are a few common areas that teachers can strengthen their own boundaries and in turn, teach better and live happier:

NYPL Advocacy Letters
It's NYPL Advocacy time!
This time of year, the NYPL runs a campaign to urge city government to fund us. Having You can read all about the annual advocacy campaign here:
LAIR: Advocacy Resources
In some cases students might not want to write their address/contact info. I've been told by some branch managers that the staff will fill in the branch address. Check in with staff where you work, and be sure to give them the completed letters. It's a great way for our program to be good citizens of the NYPL.

Other Ways You Can Help
- Online Letters: Encourage patrons to spread the word among their friends and family about signing a letter in support of libraries. Online letters can be signed at nypl.org/speakout.
- Online Sticky Notes: Anyone (including you!) can post a virtual sticky note about what libraries mean to them at notes.investinlibraries.org.
- Social Media: See below to learn how you can engage your patrons through your social media channels. If you are sharing Advocacy content on social media, please use the hashtag #InvestInLibraries.
Letter-Writing Resources
Your branch has received a set of letters in English for adults and children, and if your branch requested them, adult letters in Spanish and Traditional Chinese.
To download the adult letter in English, Spanish, French, both Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Russian, Bengali, and Arabic, or the kids letter in English, Spanish, or Traditional and Simplified Chinese, find your Council Member in the list below and click on the link.
