Here's a cooperative strategy for the blog. When I ask teachers what they'd like PD on or how I can support them, they often mention the difficulties of managing multi-level classrooms. Cooperative learning structures naturally lend themselves to multi-level groups; here's a reading strategy along with adaptations about how to use it with multi-level students.

Grouping structure: Partners; Partners → Small groups
Main modality or function: Reading, Speaking
Suggested WIPEAR segment(s): Practice
Adaptations for multi-level classrooms: Pre-plan partnerships for like-ability pairs; use different leveled texts for different like-ability pairs; pre-plan different-ability pairs and use different texts for each person; use a time goal (rather than a must-finish-the-text-
A-B Each Teach is a shared reading strategy for processing information as participants read. A-B partners may be designated in any number of ways (example: pre-ordained by teacher, shoulder partners, stand-up hand-up pair-up, numbers/letters in the corner of handouts, etc.).
The strategy works like this. Pairs designate one partner as A and one as B. Person A reads one section of the text. Person B reads another section of the text. When both are ready, they teach their section to their partner. Variations of this strategy include: Pairs conclude by developing a summary of the text or pairs join another pair and develop another summary.

Dear Colleagues,
The Library will be upgrading its payroll time and attendance system to eTime Version 8.0 on June 21, 2018.
To help everyone get ready for eTime version 8.0, all employees will be required to complete two training modules in Bridge, the Library’s online training platform. The first training module will guide you through the registration process for NetSecure, ADP’s Security Management System. You must be registered in NetSecure in order to access eTime version 8.0. The NetSecure training will be assigned to all staff on May 22, 2018 and must be completed no later than June 2, 2018.
The second training module will help to get you familiar with the new user interface of eTime version 8.0. This training will be assigned to all staff on June 5, 2018 and must be completed no later than June 20, 2018.
Once the training modules are assigned, you will receive email notifications directly from Bridge.
Managers, please ensure all supervisory personnel that report to you complete the training modules by the respective deadline dates.
I strongly encourage everyone to complete both training modules as soon as they are assigned. If you require assistance with NetSecure registration, please contact the Library’s IT Help Desk at 212-621-0500 (x40500).

This site is supported only by Internet Explorer (I.E.). It doesn't work with any other browsers.
I also came across the Ventures Student's Audio link.
This link has the audio for the Ventures Workbook, as well as the Student's Book for all levels. This is helpful if a teacher has no cd drawer in their laptop.

Steve and I attended the We Speak NYC Season 2 launch last night, May 9th at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.
It was great to see some colleagues and friends from Literacy Assistance Center, Literacy Partners, and CUNY. The group photo is (l to r): Sam Seifnourian, We Speak NYC script writer; Judy Trupin and Lizelena Iglesius, Literacy Assistance Center; Robin Poley, NYPL; Wendy Wen, NYC Consortium for Adult Basic Education. An introduction was made by Bitta Mostofi, Commissioner at NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs. The guest speaker in the second photo is Andre Aciman, award-winning author and educator. His book Call Me By Your Name is now a multilingual Academy Award winning major motion picture.

ADVOCACY LETTER
Advocacy Letter Tracker - How is your branch doing? Click to find out!
It's the time of year that the NYPL makes a public appeal to elected city officials to prioritize funding to the library.
There is a nice letter, already printed. All the students have to do is write their name, address and phone number. They don't have to do anything more than that.
Please take a minute to read the letter, and of course, explain what it is to your group. Once you have them finished, please give to your HUB Manager (if they wish), or to the branch manager. I'm sure the branch manager can give you some at the satellites. But there is a link below as well

IMPORTANT
Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to announce that the Library is upgrading to eTime Version 8.0, our payroll time and attendance system that is administered by ADP. The planned “go-live” date for the upgrade is June 21, 2018. The upgraded eTime will have a fresh new look with improved security and navigation.
To help everyone get familiar with the new look and feel of eTime v8.0, all employees will be required to complete two Bridge eTime v8.0 training modules that are being created by Human Resources. The training modules will be designed to get you acquainted with the new user interface of eTime v8.0 and ADP’s security Management System, NetSecure. In the coming days/weeks, you will receive additional announcements and reminders regarding the upgrade, training, and any actions that may be required of you.
We encourage everyone to complete the training modules as soon as they become available, as this will lay the groundwork for a successful upgrade and easy transition.

NYS TESOL 48th Annual Conference
Experience: The Heart of Teaching and Learning
November 2nd and 3rd, 2018, Albany, NY

NYS TESOL is currently inviting proposal submissions to share and discuss ideas related to the conference theme within the following nine categories:
- Adult Education
- Applied Linguistics
- Bilingual Education
- Elementary Education
- Higher Education
- Secondary Education
- Special Education
- Teacher Education
- Teaching English International
There will be five different types of sessions at the 2018 conference:
1) 70 minute workshop;
2) 70 minute panel;
3) 35 minute paper presentation;
4) 20 minute teaching tip;
5) poster presentation.
You may submit up to three proposals as the lead or co-presenter.
