We're in the middle of the term, the weather is turning cold,
Thanksgiving is right around the corner.
How do you stay motivated? How do you keep the students motivated?
I’ve been using games to keep the class motivated during this time of the year. Thus far, the students have played two Contraction Bingo games and a Holiday game (with a roll of the dice a player moves that number of jumps/places and responds to the question that is landed on). Tomorrow (11.14.18) I plan to have the students play a game with the same format. The theme, however, will be based on The Pledge of Allegance, the Statue of Liberty and the Star Spangled Banner.
ReplyDeleteI’ve also been creating groups by designating numbers to students and inviting them to move to the table that matches their number. This gets the Learners to move around a bit. It also gives them the opportunity to talk to other students. This seems to keep the students motivated because they seem to listen to the speaker more and they also correct the speaker.
My students have been researching local political figures and will present to their classmates on Thursday. I think group projects create a little anxiety and a lot of excitement.

ReplyDeleteA warm up activity that helps students articulate how they use English outside of class and demonstrates improving communicative competence, is a reminder to practice and verification of progress
