As requested, here's a little blurb about A More Perfect Union from StoryCorps. StoryCorps is a wonderful resource that presents true stories from people of diverse backgrounds throughout America. Many of the stories have been made into wonderfully animated short videos and are accompanied by transcripts of the stories. I encourage you to look at a few of the videos there. Another favorite story and video are that of Julio Diaz. It's a tremendous and moving story
For the Civics unit, attached is a digital copy of the lesson and activities I created for "A More Perfect Union." Through a wonderfully animated short film, A More Perfect Union, tells the story of when "Theresa Burroughs came of voting age. She was ready to cast her ballot—but she had a long fight ahead of her. During the Jim Crow era, the board of registrars at Alabama’s Hale County Courthouse prevented African Americans from registering to vote. Undeterred, Theresa remembers venturing to the courthouse on the first and third Monday of each month, in pursuit of her right to vote."

Last May, Luis Miguel Rojas-Berscia, a doctoral candidate at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, in the Dutch city of Nijmegen, flew to Malta for a week to learn Maltese. He had a hefty grammar book in his backpack, but he didn’t plan to open it unless he had to. “We’ll do this as I would in the Amazon,” he told me, referring to his fieldwork as a linguist. Our plan was for me to observe how he went about learning a new language, starting with “hello” and “thank you.”
