GOOGLE RESOURCES

A few weeks ago I published a chart of G Suite for Education shortcuts that included directions on how to quickly access the various tools within Google Drive. It appears that I need to add onto that chart because a couple of days ago Google introduced a new batch of shortcuts for making new Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, and Sites. In a Tweet on Thursday Google revealed that you can now simply type "doc.new" in your web browser to launch a new blank Google Document. That same structure can be used to create new Slides, Sheets, Forms, and Sites. Take a look at the Tweet embedded below for a visual.

IMPORTANT

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to announce that the Library is upgrading to eTime Version 8.0, our payroll time and attendance system that is administered by ADP. The planned “go-live” date for the upgrade is June 21, 2018. The upgraded eTime will have a fresh new look with improved security and navigation.

To help everyone get familiar with the new look and feel of eTime v8.0, all employees will be required to complete two Bridge eTime v8.0 training modules that are being created by Human Resources. The training modules will be designed to get you acquainted with the new user interface of eTime v8.0 and ADP’s security Management System, NetSecure.  In the coming days/weeks, you will receive additional announcements and reminders regarding the upgrade, training, and any actions that may be required of you.

We encourage everyone to complete the training modules as soon as they become available, as this will lay the groundwork for a successful upgrade and easy transition.

NYS TESOL 48th Annual Conference

Experience:  The Heart of Teaching and Learning

November 2nd and 3rd, 2018, Albany, NY

NYS TESOL is currently inviting proposal submissions to share and discuss ideas related to the conference theme within the following nine categories:

• Adult Education
• Applied Linguistics
• Bilingual Education
• Elementary Education
• Higher Education
• Secondary Education
• Special Education
• Teacher Education
• Teaching English International

There will be five different types of sessions at the 2018 conference:  

1) 70 minute workshop;

2) 70 minute panel;

3) 35 minute paper presentation;

4) 20 minute teaching tip;

5) poster presentation.

You may submit up to three proposals as the lead or co-presenter.

Each scenario was performed to a soundtrack (instrumental suspense, comedy, rom-com, action, soap/telenovela) curated by a fellow student musician.

All Day Conference for Adult BE and ESOL Educators

On Saturday, April 21^st, 2018 adult educators from New York City and beyond will meet at The High School of Fashion Industries at 225 West 24th Street in Manhattan for the 39^th annual Adult Basic Education/ESOL Conference. There will be a variety of interactive workshops exploring best practices in ESOL and BE instruction, HSE/TASC, college prep, math, writing, science, ESL literacy, civics, classroom management, integrating technology, fostering critical thinking and other highly relevant topics by innovative and talented presenters from a cross-section of New York City adult education providers including CUNY, NYU, NYPL, QPL, BPL, the CBOs, the Literacy Assistance Center and the New York City Coalition for Adult Literacy. The conference will conclude with a panel presentation and discussion of Embedding Civics and Civic Engagement in Adult Basic Education: An Introduction to We Speak NYC Season Two, the next generation of the former We Are New York.A variety of publishers of books and technology relevant to the field will exhibit. The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) will be offering immigration advocacy consultations and a display of information for attendees to share with adult immigrant students.

This is a unique yearly conference for all the adult education programs throughout the city and beyond. Program directors and teachers as well as volunteers are urged to attend the conference to take advantage of this valuable professional development opportunity and build mutual support to face the current climate together. Adult education students and future adult educators are also welcome to take part in the conference. Together, we’ll explore the path forward to meet the challenges of making adult education succeed!
