The NYS TESOL 47th Annual Conference invites you to join us, along with the TESOL community across New York State, to rethink the role of English language teaching and learning as part of an ongoing cycle of inquiry, reflection, and action. Join us in the quest for a new paradigm of public advocacy that will allow us to create strong inroads towards open dialogue and crack open new possibilities for social changes.
Please consider presenting and sharing discussing ideas related to the conference theme within the following categories:
- Adult Education
- Applied Linguistics
- Bilingual Education
- Elementary Education
- Higher Education
- Secondary Education
- Special Education
- Teacher Education
- Teaching English Internationally
Session Types
· 35 minute paper presentation 70 minute workshop Poster presentation Virtual Presentation
· Panel 20 Minute Teaching Tip
· Paper Presentation: tells about something you are doing in relation to theory and/or practice. Often, this type of information is presented using audio-visual aids and is accompanied by handouts. Papers are generally not read, but spoken from notes. (35 minutes)
· Workshop/Demonstration: provides participants with "hands on" experience in developing methods and materials, analyzing research data, or solving a specific research/teaching problem. In a workshop, there is very little lecturing by the leader(s); rather, the emphasis is on the participants doing something. A demonstration describes or shows how to do something, e.g., a technique for teaching or testing language which affects development of one or all of the four skills. (70 minutes)
· Panel: explores a specific issue from the different points of view expressed by the participants. (70 minutes)
· Poster session: features successful lesson plans, projects and research studies. Presenters stay near posters during scheduled session times to discuss their work and answer any questions.
· Virtual Presentation: a short prerecorded presentation intended to feature successful lessons, projects, reports on work in progress, and/or research studies. Virtual Presentations will be broadcast on the NYS TESOL website during the Annual Conference.
· 20 Minute Teaching Tip: a short format presentation, which allows presenters to share a quick strategy, game, or tool that facilitates instruction in their classroom. Teaching tips should be practical in focus and simple enough to be explained in a 20-minute format.
· Commercial: NYS TESOL accepts a limited number of Commercial Presentations, those given by publishers or sponsors of publisher's materials. These require purchase of exhibitor space and must be specifically marked as “Commercial”.
