TEACHER MEETING FALL 2017
Our fall teacher meeting was held at the Steven A. Schwarzman Building (SASB). A good time was had by all:

We took some time to look back on the 5-year journey our program has taken:
- We moved from an outsourced program to an in-house ESOL program in five weeks during the summer of 2012.
- We experienced a Gradual Expansion from 32 classes in 16 locations to 185 classes in 41 locations currently.
- Our program has 65 Hourly Instructors, 15 full-time Instructors, 6 Hub Managers, 6 Intake Advisors, 20 student Mentors and 4 Administrative staff, for a total of 116 people.

OCTOBER 6: Best Plus Refresher at St. George (contact your HUB Manager to rsvp)
OCTOBER 9: NYPL Closed, no classes (Columbus Day)
NOVEMBER 10: NYPL Closed, no classes (Veterans Day)
NOVEMBER 22-26: no classes, Thanksgiving. NYPL closed 11/23
DECEMBER 17: NYPL Fall 2017 Term ends

BEST PLUS REFRESHER
In order to administer the test, examiners must attend a "refresher" training once a year. There will be a training at the St. George ALC on Friday, October 6, from 9 am - 3 pm. Please email elizabethschade@nypl.org and your HUB Manager to reserve a space.
A MESSAGE FROM NYPL PRESIDENT re DACA:
In light of the president's decision on DACA, I want to strongly reaffirm the Library's long-standing mission of welcoming and providing opportunities to all people—including immigrants, who are among our valued staff and patrons, and whose contributions have helped build this great country.
We remain deeply committed to these principles and will continue to dedicate our time and resources to helping and strengthening all of our neighbors, including and especially those who are most vulnerable. We see immigrants in our branches every day. Most simply want to improve their circumstances and contribute to our society. For over 100 years, we have stood strong to help those facing difficult circumstances. That will continue. Thank you for all that you do to realize this key mission.
While we work hard to do our part, we look to Congress to act on the situation with DACA and respect the values of inclusion that we work to protect, those same values that are at the very foundation of our nation.
