From Silent Movie to Talking Picture: We Speak NYC for Lower-Level Learners

Time:1pm-2:30pm

Description: When is the last time you have watched a silent movie? Actually, every movie is a silent movie when you turn off the volume and focus on the moving image. Doing so draws attention to the action on screen in ways that can be scaffolded by ESOL teachers to build vocabulary, speaking, listening and other skills. In this workshop, we present methods of watching scenes from the ESOL drama series, We Speak NYC, silently to build skills for low-level learners of English. Topics in the workshop include parental engagement in a child’s education and health care. Workshop participants will receive a packet of digital materials and assignments you can use in your online classes.

The annual Literacy Review Writing Workshops will be happening on Zoom this year.  It is free and open to all adult education teachers.
