Please send me pictures, and be sure to include the branch name and level. I need them by the end of the business day on Wednesday. If I already have enough submissions for the week- that just means your pictures will be published the next week. Personally, I think the pictures that you share are the best part of the blog.

CALENDAR
Our next instructional staff meeting is scheduled for Friday, 2/7 
at the Stephen A Schwarzman Library. 

We'll be meeting 10am-1:30pm in the Trustee's Room on the 2nd floor. 
Please arrive on time so we can begin promptly at 10:00. 
To gain access to the Trustees Room, please bring your employee ID and enter using the 42nd Street door (not the 5th Ave entrance). 

A message from Steve Mahoney:

Hello everyone!

At our upcoming staff meeting on February 7, we will be sharing important information with you regarding Library system updates and exciting new initiatives.  If you have not already confirmed your attendance on the Google calendar, do so now.  

To ensure you're successful in your role at the Library, there will also be a practical exercise where everyone will demonstrate their mastery in performing the various tech skills required of an ALC Instructor.  

There's no need to feel anxious about this activity!  Below is a study sheet of how to prepare before February 7.  Specifically, during the 1st week of class, practice logging into a staff computer, Presentation Plus, Ventures Arcade and etime.  If you don't know your username or password for computer log-in or etime, contact the NYPL help desk. Also, have those usernames/passwords with you on 2/7.  ITG Help desk 212 621-0500

If you have any concerns regarding the mentioned tasks, reach out to your Hub Manager for assistance.

Teaching ESOL to Adults with Limited Literacy (TEALL)

Deadline extended to  February 24th
This certificate program provides insight into the needs of adult English Language Learners who have minimal first language literacy. 
The course addresses questions such as:
  • Where do you start?
  • How are these learners’ needs different from other adult learners?
  • How can you create engaging activities when their skills are so minimal?
  • What does the research say about best practices in teaching adult English language literacy learners?

 Classes will meet on 6  Saturdays
