WANY - THE WEDDING

One of the activities is Elke's WANY-Emotions sheet, a one-page printout, below:
Write down character names and emotions - How are they feeling? Adjectives as a discussion starting point.
Other activities on the wiki include an Election for the favorite episode character, Vocabulary activities, Predictions and Questions and Activities by Sub-theme.
THE RODS!
Maybe you have seen cuisenaire rods? Do you know anything about them? I love using them any chance I can.
They are not just for math! I have used them to teach lessons about telling time, prepositions, pronunciation, and more.
I have this document saved in my collection that has information about what rods are, and some lessons as well here. Click here for: Rods Info
Then, here's a 6 minute video for some simple ideas: YouTube: Rods (hint: there's a demo on how to describe a city, and how to use rods for giving directions. You will want to modify it, but you'll get the idea.)

Round Robin Reading for ABE and ESOL students - Your Thoughts?
This article from edutopia.org addresses reading "round robin"-style in class- having one student read aloud while everyone else listens.
We've heard from a few teachers that it works well with ABE classes who read in small groups, and is less suitable for ESOL students. Elke finds it helpful to have students read only a sentence at a time (not a paragraph), since it enforces understanding of punctuation and keeps everybody less exposed and more involved.
Overall we have mixed thoughts on this - we would love to hear yours...

PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITY
This is exciting! Please read the message below from TESOL International about the chance to contribute to the book New Ways in Teaching with Music.
TESOL Press is seeking contributors with classroom ideas specifically for how to use music in the ESL/EFL classroom. New Ways in Teaching with Music (NWTM) will be a collection of activities and exercises contributed by teachers who have used them in their teaching in ESL and EFL higher-ed or IEP classrooms around the world. Music is a new focal area for the popular New Ways series and we are seeking to publish successful, fresh and innovative methods of using music to enhance English language learning. The deadline for contributions is 30 June. A full call for contributors is published on the TESOL web site

Call for Proposals: NYS TESOL 46th Annual Conference
Collaboration in the Classroom and Beyond
NYS TESOL is currently inviting proposal submissions to share and discuss ideas related to the conference theme within the following categories:
- Adult Education
- Applied Linguistics
- Bilingual Education
- Elementary Education
- Higher Education
- Secondary Education
- Special Education
- Teacher Education
- Teaching English Internationally
New this year! The NYS TESOL 46th Annual Conference welcomes presentation threads. A thread is a group of 2-3 connected presentations. Presentations may be any type except posters. This group of presentations explores 2-3 different aspects of a single topic, or 2-3 consecutive parts of a larger topic. Threads allow for increased collaboration between presenters, and offer a venue for the exploration of topics that are broader than what could be handled in the traditional 70 minute format.
Threads are submitted and accepted as a block. If a thread is accepted, presentations will be scheduled in sequence, so that attendees may follow a thread throughout the course of a conference day.
You may not submit the same presentation as an individual presentation and then again as part of a thread.
